Happy International Women’s Day!!! Today, I Skyped with my mom and two of my favourite-est girlfriends have come to join me in Montreal for a sleepover. One thing I wished I’d mentioned in this interview (link below) is the importance, nay necessity, of surrounding yourself with inspirational influences. Is there someone you admire? Is there someone whose planet you’d love to orbit? Well, on this most important day where we celebrate and educate, reach out to that lucky person and expand your world!

Whole To My Half

This music video was a delight to make. It represents some lovely “firsts”: the first song I co-wrote, the first time Shepherd appears on camera (he totally nails it:-)), the first time David Myles’ daughter, Maria, appears on screen (an equally star-worthy performance), and both of our debuts onscreen as parents! This video will forever serve as the bar for authenticity because we’re being filmed with our own babies!

I thought we should release the video during a time of year that sees so many families together. But I also hope it serves as a bonafide pick-me-up to those whose holiday might not be so bright. It’s jam-packed with wall-to-wall baby cuteness!! Please enjoy and share.

Christmas FanFair Concert

Well, it finally happened! Someone gave me a conductors baton and put me in front of an orchestra. The culprits were the National Arts Center Orchestra and it was for such a good cause, how could I resist? Plentiful donations were given to the Snowsuit Fund and The Food Bank by the generous crowd that attended the concert this past Sunday afternoon. I wish them, and all of you, a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of holidays.

I can scratch something off my bucket list: I GOT TO SING IN HOLIDAY FESTIVAL ON ICE.

Kurt Browning, Elvis Stoiko, Jeffrey Buttle! There was no shortage of awesomeness in St John’s, Nfld a few weeks ago when we taped Holiday Festival On Ice in front of a crowd so enthusiastic that you knew, you just HAD to be in Newfoundland. So please tune it to see it TONIGHT on CBC (I don’t think I stop smiling through the whole thing.)

Measha presenting at the Giller prize

Hugely excited to be a presenter at the 2012 Scotiabank Giller Prize. Truth be told, it’s one of my very favourite happenings because it’s always SUCH an insane mix of people (picture Gorden Pinsent next to Jacob Hoggard next to Michael Ondaatje) and everyone is having a good ol’ sloshy, Canadian time. Not that I’ve ever been, but I kinda see it as our version of the Golden Globes: there’s a meal, there’s booze, there’s friendly betting…;-). And ALL in justifiable celebration of glorious CanLit. I honestly can’t wait.

Measha Brueggergosman and her husband Markus welcomed their baby boy into the world yesterday! Shepherd Peter Brueggergosman was born on August 20 at 1:27 p.m. in Ottawa. “Both Mom and baby are healthy and happy,” said her publicist Karen Lorenowicz.

Spent an afternoon over chicken & waffles with the lovely and talented Richard Ouzounian. The below is the resulting article from last weekend’s Toronto Star. Thanks so much for making the trip, Richard.

My performances as Bess in Cincinnati Opera’s Porgy and Bess finish up this weekend. It’s been a total delight. I can’t wait to sing Bess again with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic this coming September!

Measha Q&A and CD signing in Cincinnati

Rehearsals at Cincinnati Opera are going gangbusters for Gershwin’s Porgy&Bess. We had our first complete run-through last night (whew!) and our first rehearsal with the orchestra tomorrow. My colleagues are super fun and there’s just a genuinely warmth of spirit at this company. It’s quite fun to go to work every day – that’s not *always* the case;-). For those of you able to make the Cincy Q&A and CD signing mentioned in the article below, I look forward to meeting you! If not, I’m hopeful our paths will cross someday soon. Stay blessed.
